Our client had invested significant effort into marketing at this defence and security exhibition. Their brief to Defence Photography was to capture the breadth and depth of their brand presence. Here, their banner and SMEs are shown together with the backdrop of the exhibition itself.
Exhibition and Conference marketing:
Defence Photography attends many of the international defence and secuity conferences and exhibitions. This shot documents the Oshkosh exhibition stand at one of the more specialised - International Armoured Vehicles conference - by IQ defence (www.internationalarmouredvehicles.com).
Defence Photography are employed to shoot a variety of defence and security events photography. The formal nature of group photographs has been dispensed with here, to instead capture the relief of finishing a high profile and demanding army training exercise. The individuals shown represent both British Army and French Army units - Infantry, Artillery and Engineers.
At Defence Photography we always capture a strong narrative in our events photography. Here, General Sir Peter Wall, the British Army's CGS, is getting Briefed by MBDA Executives. We have framed both the missile name and company brand into the shot.
At Defence Photography we always capture a strong narrative in our events photography. Here, the CEO, Minister, IPT Leader, Projects Director and ATDU SME have been photographed alongside the technology. The company banner and the Scout SV frame the shot to focus the viewer's attention on the interaction between the group. Shot taken at DSEi 2011.
Business Development:
It is obviously important for defence and security companies to present themselves in the most professional manner at conferences. Here, a Director of Nexter is seen at a major international conference. This style of photograph has been sucessfully used in numerous company newsletters and in business marketing.
In a more repourtage style, Defence Photography captured a moment of humour and vitality to give a more relaxed feel to this army group shot.
Newsletter event photographs:
Many companies have to limit the numbers of staff that can attend their exhibitions, so they use their in-house newsletters to convey the event story. Here, on the BAE Systems stand, is their new CVR(T) Mk 2 which had been just shown to the public for the first time. The photograph shows the company logo, the main equipment, the marketing backdrop and the exhibition hall.
Sometimes it is more important to capture the information than the handshake. Here is Philip Dunne, UK Minister for Defence Equipment, Support and Technology with Locheed Martin's F-35 VP BD Steve O'Brien.
This memorial parade was held in Tunisia and featured both French and Tunisian armed forces. This photograph captures the close ties between the two countries.
Capturing expressions:
The close-protection officer and the British Chief of Defence Staff have very different expressions reflecting their roles at this event. General Sir David Richards is projecting an up-beat image whilst the security officer's expression is a reminder of the terrorist threat. The combination of expressions tells a contemporary story.
Defence industry project team:
It is not unusual to have only minutes to spare to take a group photograph, especially when they are a busy project team. The added challenge here was how best to capture the vehicle too. The solution was to have the vehicle on the right hand side with the group spread across two-deep and other members further up the vehicle. This way all faces are seen, group member height is balanced and all are looking 'positive'.
Getting the VIP to an exhibition stand can be a challenge, sometimes matched by getting a useable photographic angle to encompass the guest and senior executives of the company. Even better still is the product name in shot. In this case it is General Sir Peter Wall, CGS with EADS management at DSEi, alongside their A400M model.
Significant investment goes into the marketing and business development at such defence and security exhibitions. The challenge for defence companies is how to stand-out and differentiate themsleves. This photograph documents how Force Protection Europe (now part of General Dynamics) achieved an imagintaive exhibition stand layout and design at DSEi 2011. The vantage point was high to best capture the totality of the stand.
Critical to a defence Event is getting to the Event and capturing the best pose and backdrop. Here's the UK Defence Minister visiting a RAF station.
